Enable mental ray scene rendering on a computer where Maya is installed. The Maya installation directory contains an installer for mental ray renderer. This version of mental ray is used only for local rendering on the same computer as Maya. To run mental ray. This also means that Mental Ray 3.14 for Maya 2016/2017 based installations of Domemaster3D used an updated lens shader by default compared to previous Mental Ray 3.13 and earlier versions of the.dll/.so/.dylib shader libraries.

How To Install Mental Ray In Maya 2016 Mac
This problem has tormented me for the past couple of months. I tried Houdini with smoke sims and gave up there, blender kept crashing on me, so I used my educational license for the autodesk suite and began experimenting. I learned Maya because it's UI was easier to understand for me.
With the context complete here comes the issue. Every time I try to render anything from FumeFX in Maya with mental ray it's only a black screen, nothing renders. If I place a block and a light in the same scene with the sim only the block will show up. The infuriating part to me is the fact that mental ray works completely fine in 3dsMax but not in Maya. The GPU Preview works completely fine but I want to have more control of my render. Having a in the scene works for normal maya geometry but not fumefx volume. I checked the manual for fumefx and it says to enable photon autovolume and I've checked that off.
Is there a certain option I need to check off in FumeFX that I haven't seen before?
